Biography (Provided by Candidate)

I’m a retired creative and marketing services director who has been married for 46 years. My wife, Alma, an attorney, and I have three married daughters and four grandchildren of whom we’re very proud.

The son of a New York City detective and homemaker, I attended city schools and Columbia College, where I earned an AB degree in liberal arts and economics in 1958. After serving two years in the U.S. Army Infantry in Germany, I worked as a district sales manager while pursuing an MBA at the Baruch School of Business. Graduating in 1968, I went on to do course work at the Pratt Institute Graduate Packaging School. In late 2001, Carter-Wallace, Inc., my employer, was sold. Being 65, I retired and briefly consulted for former colleagues. Since then, I’ve devoted myself to housework, watching my grandsons, reading revisionist history of politics and war, and studying Austrian economics and libertarianism. Alma and I have also traveled throughout Europe and the United States.

Since 1995, I’ve frequently been on the ballot supporting the libertarian principles of nonaggression and individual self-ownership.

As were many Founders, I’m a deist, but I adhere to Christ’s principles of tolerance, respect for others, and peace.

Views on Issues (provided by Candidate)

The three most important issues are the economy, foreign policy, and entitlement programs.

ECONOMY:   Cut government spending and taxes to free up capital for investment and job creation in the free market.  The global military empire is ineffective against insurgencies and creates enemies by its very existence. The military-industrial complex produces ultra expensive equipment to fight yesterday’s wars. Dismantle them both to free up the capital needed to promote prosperity. Also, cut unnecessary programs by limiting the Federal government to its constitutionally delegated powers.

The economy needs sound money that doesn't lose its value as do inflated Federal Reserve Notes (FRNs). Prices aren't going up, the value of FRNs is going down because of Fed inflationary policy.  Privately supplied money backed 100% by precious metal must be allowed as an alternative to FRNs.  This would allow people to opt for sound money instead of being obliged to use inflated fiat currency. Sound money would stabilize prices and retain the value of savings.

Eliminate subsidies, loans, bailouts, and control of wages, rents, profits, production, and interest rates.  Cut out regulations that add an estimated $800 billion annually to business costs.

Cancel all trade agreements and abolish all tariffs.  Tariffs tax consumers and protect only the politically connected.

Free markets have proven over time to allocate resources effectively and foster prosperity.  They have a spontaneous order, so they avoid boom/bust cycles by adjusting themselves. Federal Reserve monetary policy and government efforts at control, in whole or in part, create booms and busts, and eventually fail. Recent events in the dot com, housing, and mortgage markets are prime examples.

FOREIGN POLICY:   Adopt a policy of NONINTERVENTION in the affairs of other nations.  To accomplish this, some 700 military bases in over 130 countries must be closed and the CIA restricted to intelligence gathering.  The military and CIA have caused and continue to cause ill will in many countries and give impetus to those looking to avenge US military presence and CIA clandestine meddling.  Foreign forces on US soil or in adjacent waters would not be tolerated.  Needless to say, foreign plots to disrupt or overthrow our government would make the citizenry furious.  In any event, the conventional army is ineffective in today’s world. Replace it with US-based, special-forces units and ready reserves.  Alliances (NATO) that obligate the US military to foreign adventures should be ended.  Foreign aid must stop, however individuals should be free – at their own risk - to offer their own lives and property to foreign causes not detrimental to US security.  Individuals and businesses going overseas must provide for their own security. Contact with ALL nations must continue through trade, diplomacy, and people-to-people contact.

ENTITLEMENTS: Social Security and Medicare are unconstitutional and untenable programs with long-term liabilities in the tens of trillions of dollars. Major revamping of the Federal government, deep cuts in defense spending, and the sale of government assets can provide the money to transition to individually-owned retirement and medical accounts without jeopardizing those people currently reliant on these programs. The Federal government has proven time and again its ineptness in managing our national affairs.
