Biography (Provided by Candidate)

A lifelong resident of Gloucester Township, Bill’s personal story of courage and years of dedicated service to his community makes his bid for a seat in the state Assembly a natural next step. He battled a rare childhood, overcame it at 10 and went on to become a track star at Highland High School. After graduating, he coached Highland for over 30 years – earning “South Jersey Coach of the Year” honors four times.

As President of the Gloucester Township School Board, Bill fought for quality education while cutting the tax levy three years in a row. He has improved the infrastructure and security at schools, expanded ESL and Autism programs and upgraded technology throughout the local educational system.

Bill Collins grew up in Gloucester Township, raised his family in our community, and, like you, knows we need real change in Trenton. The challenges we face call for an intelligent, persistent leader whose priority will be working for the best interests of the taxpayers. He will listen to the citizens of South Jersey and work hard to address their concerns in Trenton – even if it means standing up to the entrenched political interests to get things done.

Views on Issues (Provided by Moriarty-Collins Campaign)

Protect South Jersey jobs and grow our local economy

These harsh economic times call for proven leadership to revitalize our local economy. Paul and Bill know that job creation is the No. 1 concern of our families, and they will fight for policies that attract new businesses to our community and help existing ones expand. They support targeted investment initiatives and job-training programs that create an educated and skilled workforce.

Cap state spending and relieve the burden on hardworking taxpayers

Paul and Bill know that weakening job security, costly health insurance premiums and a spendthrift, inefficient state government with no accountability are squeezing our families. The time for change – starting with an accountable, responsive government—is now. That's why Paul and Bill will force state government to tighten its belt by rooting out waste and corruption and eliminating pet projects that waste our taxpayer dollars. They support a strict cap on state spending and will push for zero-based budgeting, forcing bureaucrats to prove the merit of every dollar they want to spend. By turning up the heat on Trenton , they will continue their record of independent reform that is protecting our tax dollars.

Bring home South Jersey ’s fair share of state resources and money

For too long, our community has paid sky-high taxes and received only budget leftovers in return. It’s time South Jersey gets what we deserve. Paul and Bill will make sure our South Jersey region is respected in Trenton and not treated as second-class citizens. We are determined to bring back our fair share of state resources in these tough economic times.

Improve access to affordable health care and prescription drugs

Affordable health care is a right, not a privilege. Weakening job security has left thousands without health insurance, and many more struggle every day with overwhelming co-pays and complicated insurance paperwork. Paul and Bill will work to increase access to affordable health care and prescription drugs. They will crack down on fraud and abuse in our health care system. They will promote statewide drug purchasing. And they will fight for an improved choice of plans, pre-tax savings for employers and employees, and simplified premium payment. To ensure our seniors enjoy a secure retirement, they will continue working to bridging the gap in Medicare coverage by protecting New Jersey 's PAAD and Senior Gold programs.

Maintain an open-door policy for 4th District constituents

Paul and Bill believe that government should be open, accountable and responsive to the citizens. Too many decisions are being made in the dark, hidden from the public’s view and closed to any debate or questions about their costs or effectiveness. That is unacceptable. New Jersey 's families are facing tough times and struggling every day to make ends meet. The unnecessary costs of a wasteful, ineffective government in Trenton make those problems worse. Closed-door meetings, lobbyist gifts and partisan bickering cannot be tolerated.
