Biography (Provided by Candidate)

As Chairman of the Health and Senior Services Committee Herb is a leading voice on how to reform our broken health care system. He is nationally known for his work encouraging the use of information technology to improve health care and lower costs, and wrote the “New Jersey Health Information Technology Promotion Act,” which created New Jersey's health information technology planning infastructure.

Dr. Conaway began his career in public service in the Medical Corps as a United States Air Force Captain. He became a medical officer and an assistant director of the Primary Care Clinic at McGuire Air Force Base before retiring from the service. He specializes in internal medicine and still practices in Willingboro.

Herb is the only member of the Legislature with both a medical and a law degree, expertise that he put to work increasing access to health care and prescription drug coverage.

A lifelong Burlington County resident, Herb is a former member of the Board of Trustees of Family Services of Burlington County and is a current member of AMVETS and the American Legion. Views on Issues (Provided by Conaway-Conners Campaign)

Protect South Jersey jobs and grow our state economy

Growing South Jersey ’s economy and putting people back to work is Herb and Jack’s number one priority. Herb and Jack are protecting homeowners from the foreclosure crisis, ensuring loans for small businesses during the credit crunch, and standing up to party leaders to fight for South Jersey jobs.

Cap state spending and relieve the burden on hardworking taxpayers

Families across South Jersey make tough financial choices every day to live within their means—it’s time state government did the same. That’s why instead of raising taxes and raiding refunds, Herb and Jack are changing state government. They slashed spending, cracked down on corruption, and are helping to deliver services more efficiently. They support a cap on state spending through zero-based budgeting, forcing bureaucrats to prove the merit of every dollar they want to spend.

Attack political corruption with tougher penalties and preventions

No-bid contracts and insider-deals waste taxpayer dollars and drive up our property taxes. Herb and Jack are cracking down on corruption with stiff penalties that hold public officials accountable — and restore citizen's trust in state government.

Improve access to affordable health care and prescription drugs

Herb and Jack are making health care more affordable for South Jersey , and vigorously protecting the health and financial security of our seniors.

As Chairman of the Health and Senior Services Committee, Dr. Herb Conaway is the Assembly’s leading advocate for reforming our broken health care system and ensuring our seniors retire in dignity. Herb and Jack lowered health care costs by prohibiting hospitals from charging unfair rates to those lacking health insurance. They fought to make care accessible for everyone, passing a new law that allows the Department of Health and Senior Services (HSS) to monitor and help hospitals on the brink of financial collapse. And they wrote the new law preventing fraud at county welfare agencies, ensuring that the families who deserve help are the ones receiving it.

Keep our promise to honor and support our veterans and service members

Herb, a former U.S. Air Force Captain, and Jack, a decorated member of the Army National Guard, understand the needs of our veterans and service members. Together they have an accomplished record of service and advocacy, and are proud to work for the men and women who have sacrificed for us.

As Chairman of the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, Jack is our veteran’s biggest champion and most powerful ally in Trenton . Jack and Herb pioneered the new “Troops to College” program, which helps returning veterans get ready for school and prepare for civilian life. They passed a law to make sure cremated Veterans were treated with dignity, and created a new “Support the Troops” license plate which will raise money to fund the National Guard’s Family Grant Program.
